Run For STOP 2018 took place in Ma On Shan on 16 December (Sunday). 30 runners ran to raise funds for STOP. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the funds will enable STOP to assist survivors of trafficking in their journey of recovery and in their pursuit of justice.
The marathon started at break of day, at 6am. First to set off were those on the full marathon. The half-marathon, 10km race and 2km race followed as the sun rose on a brisk day ideal for running. An endurance race such as this reminds us that survivors’ journey of recovery is a long and arduous one, as is the journey to end human-trafficking and restore dignity, justice and hope to survivors.
Among our runners were couples, siblings and families, sporting STOP’s striking pink and white shirt. Supporting each other in a spirit of sportsmanship, runners did warm-up exercises together, ran together and celebrated together once they finished the race.
Run for STOP ended at noon. The race was a wonderful opportunity to learn more and raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking in and through Hong Kong. We are reminded, again, how far we have come, and far there is still to go.
